Hardrocker Track To Get RMAC Tune-Up at Loper Invitational

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Hardrocker track and field teams will close the regular season  before next week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships when they compete in the Loper Invitational Friday in Kearney, Nebraska.

Hosted by the University of Nebraska Kearney, the meet begins at 10 a.m. MT at the Kearney High School Stadium. This is the second time the Hardrockers have competed in Kearney as they participated in the Central Nebraska Challenge March 30.

The 'Rockers are coming off an outstanding weekend where they competed in four meets in two days – Friday at Central Missouri and Jamestown, N.D. and Saturday in two Minnesota meets at Minnesota State University and Bethel University.

The Hardrockers set one school record and won four events over the weekend.

Junior Allyson Heiden had a huge day at the Mule Relays in Missouri as she won the women's 5,000-meter run in a school-record time of 17 minutes, 42.17 seconds, 11 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Also at the Mule Relays, the 400 hurdles was an outstanding event as four runners finished in the top six places – all with personal best times. Cole Dobberstein led the way by winning the event in 54.90 seconds.

In Jamestown, Cooper Stevens won the shot put with a best toss of 14.90 meters (48-feet, 10.75 inches.).

On Saturday at the Bethel Track Invitational in Arden Hills, freshman Sawyer Nelson came away with the win in his specialty at 13.52 meters (44-0 ¼), which keeps him in 10th place all-time at South Dakota Mines.

South Dakota Mines just sent throwers to the Minnesota State Open in Mankato and Jaycie Stubbs led the way by winning the javelin at 40.90 meters.
