Hardrocker Track to Compete in Four Weekend Meets

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's track and field teams will be spread out, competing in four meets in three states this weekend.
 
The Hardrocker mid- and long-distance runners will compete in Warrensburg, Missouri, Friday at the Mule Relays, hosted by the University of Central Missouri. Jumpers, throwers, hurdlers and sprinters will compete at the Al Cassell Classic Friday in Jamestown, North Dakota, hosted by the University of Jamestown. On Saturday, Hardrocker throwers will be in Mankato, Minnesota at the Minnesota State Open, hosted by Minnesota State University. Also on Saturday, a smaller group of men sprinters and jumpers will be in Arden Hills, Minnesota, for the Bethel Invitational, hosted by Bethel University.
 
Last weekend the Hardrockers competed in the large two-day USD Early Bird Open in Vermillion.
 
On Friday, sophomore Alana Howard led the way as she finished in second place in the women's 10,000-meter run in 39 minutes, 45.69 seconds, which was a personal best and third all-time for the Hardrockers.

Fifth-year student Jaycie Stubbs was third in the women's javelin with a best throw of 39.58 meters (129-feet, 10 inches).
 
For the Hardrocker men, junior Hunter Prather was sixth in the 10,000-meter run in 33:29.39, which was a personal best, while teammate sophomore Timothy Wolfe was ninth in the same event in 33:54.77.
 
On Saturday, junior Aidan Thompson finished fourth in the men's decathlon with 6,148 points in the 10-event competition, including wins in the 1,500-meter run in 4 minutes, 49.01 seconds and the shot put at 13.04 meters (42- feet, 9 ½ inches).
 
On the women's side, Abbie Saline (400), Adeline Wilson (400) and Madalyn McQuistan (800) all finished in the top 20.
