KEARNEY, Neb. – The South Dakota Mines track and field teams returned to action Saturday at the Central Nebraska Challenge in Kearney, Nebraska and came away with some strong finishes.
The Hardrockers finished with four runners-up – two individual and two relays and several other top-five finishes. The meet was co-hosted by Hastings College and the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Senior
Jaycie Stubbs led the Hardrockers with three top-five placings. She finished in third place in the javelin at 40.92 meters, fourth in the shot put at 12.51m and fifth in the discus at 41.97m.
Also for the Hardrocker women, freshman
Teagan Wright was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13 minutes, 17.73 seconds, while senior
Abbie Saline was fourth in the 800 in 2:22.23. In the javelin, sophomore
Adisyn Schenck finished fourth at 32.26m.
The 4X400 relay team of junior
Melissa May, Saline, sophomore
Laine Mannes and senior
Adeline Wilson placed fourth in 4:19.88. Junior
Amanda Cooley was seventh in the shot put at 11.21m and Schenck was eighth at 11.20m.
For the South Dakota Mines men, junior
Owen Hansmann led the way as he finished second with a personal best time of 4:01.88, which moves him into eight on the top 10 marks in the 1500m. In the 110 hurdles, senior
Taegen Wells placed second in 15.16, with freshman
Merek Ranstrom fourth in 15.56.
In the triple jump, freshman
Sawyer Nelson finished third at 13.46 meters,
Senior
Reid Kaiser placed third in invitational hammer at 50.53 meters, with junior
Isaiah Thurman right behind in fourth place at 49.78. In the hammer, senior
Ian Cone finished in fifth at 45.89 meters. In the invitational discus, junior
Aidan Thompson was fifth at 43.70m.
In the men's 3,000 steeplechase, freshman
Jackson Parrill finished fourth in 10:00.41, followed by freshman
Ty Brady in fifth place in 10:11.61 and junior
Owen Wagner sixth in 10:18.39. Senior
Brent Snyder was fifth in the invitational javelin at 46.47m.
The two Hardrocker men's relay teams finished in second place. The 4X100 team of sophomore

Dominick Giggee, freshmen
Landon Ptacek and freshman
Lane Thomas finished in 43.25 seconds and the 4X400 team of Thomas, Johnson, sophomore
Thomas Greisen and junior
Ethan Pitlick ran the race in 3:22.27. In the 400 hurdles, freshman
Cole Dobberstein was fourth in 56.58 and freshman
Merek Ranstrom was fifth in 57.36.
Freshman
Augustus Fink, competing unattached for the Hardrockers, was fourth in the men's shot put at 13.58m. In the men's invitational shot put, freshman
Cooper Stevens was sixth at 14.77m and Cone was seventh at 14.41m.
Greisen finished seventh in the 800 in 1:56.12. In the final running event of the day, junior
Tyler Captain was sixth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:16.41, followed by freshmen
Tristan Enders in seventh in 15:22.72 and
Cole Tatro in eighth place in 15:28.94.
