Hardrocker Men Take First, Teams Combine for 8 Event Wins

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Mines men's and women's indoor track and field teams looked for another good performance to close the two-day Dave Little Alumni Mile Saturday at the Donald E. Young Center Fieldhouse in Spearfish.
 
The Hardrockers had a great meet with the men taking first, scoring 226 points and the women finishing second with 108 points. The teams combined for eight first-place finishes led by freshman Sawyer Nelson, who came away with a pair of top finishes. Nelson won the triple jump in 13.98 meters and the high jump at 1.90 meters.
 
Other first-place finishes for the Hardrocker men, senior Taegen Wells won the 60 hurdles in 8.54 seconds, while freshman Merek Ranstrom was second with a time of 8.73.

Freshman Trevor Fredenburg captured the long jump at 5.72 meters and the 4X400 relay team of freshman Lane Thomas, freshman Cole Dobberstein, junior Ethan Pitlick and sophomore Thomas Greisen came out on top in 3:30.03.

Senior Reid Kaiser finished fourth in the weight throw, hitting 16.16 meters. Freshman Cole Tatro finished seventh in the mile run in 4:26.04, which put him in eighth place all-time for the Hardrockers. Senior Jonathan Hopkins finished third in the heptathlon with 4,198 points. Cooper Stevens also tied the #10 mark in the shot put with a throw of 14.71m.

For the Hardrocker women, the distance medley relay team of senior Abbie Saline, junior Katie Magni, senior Adeline Wilson and sophomore Clare Fischer earned the third fastest time in school history by winning the event in 13:10.64.

Fischer won the 3,000-meter run in 10:46.73 which moved her into the second spot in the school's top times and freshman Josie Byrne captured the pentathlon with 2,065 points and junior Abby Krumpus was second with 1,928. Byrne is now in third place all-time, while Krumpus has the fourth best score.
