Hardrocker Volleyball Dominates in Home Opener

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team opened their home schedule on Friday night, welcoming in Adams State.

The Hardrockers were not very welcoming, however. They were not pleased with how last weekend went, and they played like it Friday night. as they dominated from point 1 to point 25 in each set.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hardrockers roared to an 8-2 lead, with Alessandra Meoni grabbing three early kills, on her way to a big night. South Dakota Mines did not let off the gas, grabbing six straight points, and 8 of the last nine, closing the set with kills by Kiley Metzger and Josey Wickersham.

The second set started a little slower for the Hardrockers, trailing 8-6 before taking off and grabbing a 13-9 lead after a Jenna Curtis kill. A 5-point run would follow giving South Dakota Mines an 18-10 advantage and eventually grew the lead to 22-13 before closing it off, 25-14.

The second set also began as a battle with the Hardrockers scoring three consecutive points, tying it up at 9, but once again Regis would go on a run, getting back-to-back points to push the lead to 22-12, before eventually taking the set 25-14.

The third set started similarly to the first with the Hardrockers taking an 8-2 lead, and eventually grew to 19-9, before the Hardrockers cruised to a 25-13 win in the set and 3-0 in the match.

NOTES
South Dakota Mines had four hitters over .500 in the match in Ava Sparks (1.000), Kiera Walsh (.600), Alessandra Meoni (.522), and Josey Wickersham (.500)…Meoni led the team with 14, while Jenna Curtis and Kiera Walsh recorded 7…Kiley Metzger recorded 30 assists, but fell just short of a double double, getting 8 digs…Hannah Benes recorded 18 digs…Rachel Mau had the best game of her short career, picking up 12 digs and four aces.
