Women's Track & Field

Outdoor Season Begins in Pueblo for Track & Field

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- After a schedule change, instead of opening up their season in Spearfish at Black Hills State, the track & field teams will open up their outdoor season at the Spank Blasing Invitational at CSU Pueblo.

On Friday, events will begin at 2 p.m. with mainly throwing events, while Saturday is scheduled to be a much more eventful day with both field and track events beginning at 10 a.m.

The indoor season was a successful one for the track and field teams, culminating in six student-athletes being named to All-Conference based on their performances at the RMAC Championships, including three school records being broken.

Jade Cass just missed qualifying for nationals after winning the pole vault with a 2.07-meter jump and placed second in the heptathlon with 4,939 points, both were school records. Aidan Thompson and Travis Kleinsasser also were named All-Conference after finishing fourth and sixth in the heptathlon. In outdoor track & field, the multi-event switches to the 10-event decathlon but those three athletes look to carry over their success to the new event after finishing the Indoor season ranked fourth in USTFCCA's squad rankings in the heptathlon.

Eli Barbot finished sixth in the pole vault and looks to improve upon that in the outdoor season.

Jaycie Stubbs and Kamryn Scully had great seasons for the women's team, setting multiple school records in the shot put and the pole vault. Stubbs set the school record three times in the shot put, finishing the RMAC Championships with a school record mark of 13.55m, finishing in fifth. Scully fell short of a school record at the conference championships but also took home a fifth-place finish with a pole vault jump height of 3.53 meters.
