DENVER, Colo. – The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team closed its two-day opening weekend of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon against Regis University at the Regis Fieldhouse.

Slow starts to the game and the second half did in the Hardrockers as the Rangers won 79-50.

How It Happened
Regis scored the first 14 points of the game to put the Hardrockers' backs against the wall. Savea Mansfield finally broke the drought for the 'Rockers as her layup with 4:39 to play in the first period put South Dakota Mines on the scoreboard.

Piper Bauer would hit a pair of 3-pointers and Megan Alexander added a layup late but the Rangers, who hit six 3-pointers themselves in the first, built a comfortable 28-10 lead after the opening quarter of play.

A jumper by Emily Thomas and another 3-pointer by Bauer cut the lead to 15 with five minutes remaining in the half. Regis, however, scored seven straight points and closed the first half up 44-23.

Regis was able to keep the momentum, scoring the first 13 points of the second half to build a 34-point advantage. Bauer hit a 3-pointer with 5:46 to play in the third to get the Hardrockers going and Naomi Hidalgo hit two free throws, followed by 3-pointers from Mansfield and Bauer, to cut into the lead. But Regis scored the period's final four points for a 65-34 advantage going into the fourth.

South Dakota Mines had its best quarter of the game and outscored the Rangers 16-14 in the fourth. Bauer and Lauren Herman had five points each in the final quarter and Morning Grace Spotted Bear added four points as Regis closed out the 79-50 win.
