Third Quarter Does Hardrocker Women in After A Solid First Half

SPEARFISH, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team played against the Wolves from Northern State University in the East/West Challenge in Spearfish, S.D. on Friday night.
 
The Hardrockers played tough in the first half, with the game tied, but couldn't keep it up, eventually falling.
 
How it Happened
The Hardrockers started strong, outscoring the Wolves in the first quarter 16-14. In the quarter, Sydnee Durtsche had six points on two three-pointers and Piper Bauer added five. 
 
The Hardrockers held the slim lead until halfway through the second quarter. At the 4:30 mark, Bauer would hit a three to give SDM back the lead, 29-27. NSU would regain the lead late in the quarter. With four seconds left, Bauer tied the game with a three-pointer to tie it, 35-35 heading into the locker room. 
 
The Hardrockers' offense struggled in the third quarter as they only scored seven points. The Wolves found the net often outscoring the Hardrockers 25-7 in the third quarter. The Hardrockers would go into the fourth quarter down 60-42.
 
The Hardrockers found their grove again in the final quarter scoring 24 points to NSU's 15. But it wasn't enough to make the comeback and the Wolves went on to win the game 77-64. In the quarter Durtsche would score eight points for the Hardrockers.

Notes
Three Hardrockers' would score in double digits in the loss with Durtsche scoring 20, Bauer scoring 18, and Savea Mansfield adding 11. Durtsche also had nine rebounds.

The Hardrockers will be back on the court tomorrow to finish off the weekend. They will face the University of Sioux Falls at 2:00 PM.
