TRENDING UP
South Dakota Mines continues to play well and is beginning to see the results. They battled against two of the best oppenents in the conference in #24 Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis at home. Following those two matchups, the Hardrockers dominated the second half against Adams State, picking up a 3-1 victory.
STRONG SET PIECES
The Hardrockers have been dangerous on set pieces this season, and that continued against Adams State as
Garrett Cole netted one himself off a corner.
PEPPERING THE NET
Against Adams State, the Hardrockers had their strongest offensive output of the season, not just in scoring three goals, but also recording 20 shots with 11 on goal.
DYNAMIC DEFENDERS
South Dakota Mines has a strong back line that blends youth with experience.
Aydon Ellis,
Jacob Miklas,
Trent Ripley,
Zach Peroff and
Rider Grow make up the defensive core. Despite the stats, those 5 make up a strong back line with Peroff also being dangerous on the offensive end, scoring a goal.
RESETTING THE RECORD BOOKS
Hayden Jaramillo set the single-season record for assists in 2022, recording five. This year, he has taken on a bit of a different role, recording a career-high in shots, goals, and approaching shots on goal, but in the most recent contest against Adams State he found
Mateo Clagg for a goal, getting his second assist of the season and ninth of his career, tying the school record for career assists.
SCOUTING MSU DENVER
MSU Denver has struggled a bit this season, getting out to a 3-7-2 record and 1-3 in the RMAC. They are currently on a two-game losing streak against Westminster and Colorado Mesa.
Aaron Biggerstaff is their biggest threat offensively as he has recorded 6 goals, the only Roadrunner with more than two.
Aidan Bates returns for the Roadrunners as a senior after being named Second Team All-Conference in 2022. Adan Perez and Ross Miller also return after being named honorable mention last season.
Luke Bone has emerged as their top playmaker, recording three assists.
Offense has not been the issue for the Roadrunners, scoring 21 goals for an average of 1.750 per game, the fourth best in the RMAC. Their defense has surrendered the same amount which the fourth highest mark in the conference.
SCOUTING COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES
Colorado School of Mines has had an up-and-down year, defeating the #3 CSU Pueblo Thunderwolves and also losing to Westminster and Colorado Mesa. Their 2-4-5 record might be a bit misleading as they have played a daunting schedule that includes four top-25 opponents and two teams receiving votes.
Most recently, they got back on the winning track, defeating Westminster, 2-1.
It's a bit of a reloading season for the Orediggers as they saw the graduation of five players named to all-conference teams last season, with the only returner being Caelin David.
Marc Zimmerman and Chris Seery are their two players who have scored more than a single goal, recording 4 and 3, respectively.
Alex Gonzalez has three assists to pace the team.
Their offense has not been their strength, scoring just 10 goals in their 11 games, the third least in the RMAC. Defensively, they have allowed 16.
LOOKING AHEAD
The road trip continues with an away game at CCU on Friday, October 20 prior to wrapping up the regular season with three games at Dakota Fields.
