Box Score RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines soccer team traveled four hours east to Mitchell, S.D. to take on Dakota Wesleyan University on Thursday afternoon.
The Hardrockers defeated the Tigers 4-1 in a non-conference match-up.
In the first half, both teams failed to get any points on the board. The Hardrockers took nine shots on goal in the first half, while the Tigers only managed two shots on goal.
In the second half, Coach Thompson must have given an inspirational speech as the Hardrockers came out of the locker room on fire. Forty-two seconds into the second half, Bernando Almeida scored on a pass from
Hayden Jaramillo. The Hardrockers had a 1-0 lead until
Ransom Hall scored at the 50:00 minute mark. Almeida had the assist for Hall's goal. Four minutes later
Elias Burgfeld scored unassisted to give the Hardrockers a 3-0 lead. The Hardrockers would go up 4-0 when Almeida scored his second goal at the 60:00 minute time.
The Tigers snuck one through the Hardrocker defense with five minutes to play in the game. The Hardrockers played tough defense the whole game and defeated the Tigers 4-1.

Daniel Freitas had four saves for the Hardrockers. Overall the Hardrockers had 17 shots on goal.
The win brings the Hardrockers record to 1-1-1 on the year.
Their next match is against Lubbock Christian on Saturday, September 3rd at 1:00 PM in Denver, Colo.
