Hardrocker Women Fall in Tight Constest in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's basketball team faced off against the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday.

How It Happened –
The first quarter started slowly offensively, with the Hardrockers leading 6-3 with just over 3 minutes to go, however both teams would start to get going. Megan Fannin would hit back-to-back threes followed by Dallie Hoskinson hitting a trey of her own, giving the Cougars a 14-12 lead after one.

In the second half, the battle would continue, with neither team getting a significant lead. The Hardrockers took a lead briefly after back-to-back Jansi Merz baskets, but USF would go into the locker room with a 27-25 lead.

Early in the third, USF would expand upon their lead, taking a 34-29 lead with 6:26 on the clock. Later, a 6-0 Hardrocker run would cut the USF lead to 36-35, but USF still led 42-27 going into the fourth.

The fourth was back and forth but South Dakota Mines would not be able to trim the deficit and eventually fell 64-57.

Notes – Savea Mansfield led the team with 14 points, with Sydnee Durtsche also getting double-digits with 10. Naomi Hidalgo and Mansfield had six rebounds.

Up Next – The Hardrockers will have a day off before taking on Northern State on the road on Sunday.
