RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines volleyball team opened its weekend with a dominant performance against Fort Lewis.
How It Happened - In the first set, the Hardrockers were even with the Skyhawks early, before taking over the set. The Hardrockers scored four straight to open up an 11-6 lead with kills by
Victoria Zagorski and
Kiley Metzger, while
Anna Thomas picked up an ace and
Jacey Koethe and
Lily Bartling combined for a block. South Dakota Mines would close the set with five of six points, winning it 25-16.
The second set was a little bit more of a battle, but the Hardrockers would still get things rolling and take over. Down 14-13, the Hardrockers would take seven straight points, getting contributions from Koethe, Bartling,
Kiley Metzger and
Ava Brunn. This time, the Hardrockers would close the set out 25-17.
The third set was all Hardrockers. Three of the first four Hardrocker points came from Koethe as South Dakota Mines took a 4-1 lead, then
Paisley Gibson added back-to-back kills. With the score at 7-6, the Hardrockers got eight straight points. Later, another run of six straight points expanded the lead to 21-8. The set would close with the Hardrockers winning 25-11.
Notes – Lily Bartling had 12 kills on 18 attacks for a hitting percentage of .667…
Victoria Zagorski,
Jacey Koethe, and
Paisley Gibson posted hitting percentages of .500, .400, and .333…Koethe added four blocks…
Kiley Metzger had 41 assists.
Up Next –The Hardrockers moved to 7-12 and 4-7 in the RMAC and moved into an RMAC playoff spot with the win. They hope to continue to improve their position as they take on Western Colorado tomorrow for a 6:00 matchup.
