Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hardrocker Soccer Falls in Overtime Heartbreaker

LAKEWOOD, Colo. --- The South Dakota Mines men's soccer team took on Adams State in Lakewood on Sunday afternoon, trying to snap its losing streak.

Despite what the stats may say, the Hardrockers dominated much of the game, both in scoring chances, and possession in the opposing teams' backline. The Hardrockers got good shot, after good shot, and put thorough pressure on the Grizzly backline all match-long, especially in the second half, however they were not able to finish, allowing Adams State to get back into the game and eventually win it in overtime.

In the first half, the Hardrockers were the aggressor early, getting 5 shots, and a corner kick before Logan Allard found the net on an assist by George Martinez to take a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. The Hardrockers would record 5 more shots, and get two more corners, but were unable to find the back of the net and went into the locker room leading 1-0.

It would be more of the same in the second half with the Hardrockers getting 6 shots, making it difficult on the Grizzly defense and goalkeeper, but could not finish. Adams State would take advantage of the Hardrockers' inability to finish, leveling the game on a penalty kick in the 78th minute, and that is how it would stay throughout the remainder of regulation.

It did not take long for Adams State to end the game, getting a shot, earning a corner, and then scoring the game-winning goal just two minutes into the overtime period.

Head Coach Ryan Thompson had the following comment after the game, "Another tough loss, we played well throughout the game, but we can't let teams get back into the game and gain momentum."

Leaders:
Ransom Hall led the team in shots with 3….6 different players had a shot on goal for the Hardrockers….George Martinez recorded an assist, his second of the season.
