Mavericks Snap Hardrockers' Win Streak

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines women's basketball four-game winning streak came to an end Friday night as the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks defeated South Dakota Mines 61-57 at Goodell Gymnasium during a RMAC matchup.

The Hardrockers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first and continued that pace leading 20-11 at the end of one quarter. The Mavs picked up the pace and went on a 8-0 run late in the second quarter to tie the game 30-30. Ryan Weiss drained a three-pointer towards the end of the quarter to give the Hardrockers a 33-32 lead at the half. Weiss was lights out in the first half scoring 15 points.

The 'Rockers were still in control of the game during the third quarter outscoring the Mavs 18-12 for a 51-44 lead at the end of the quarter. The Mavs fought their way back into the game in the fourth using a 9-0 run to finally take the lead late in the quarter and ended the game up 61-57.

Weiss led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 8-16 from the field. Makenna Bodette and Naomi Hidalgo each scored 10 points for the Hardrockers. Natalie Bartle had 17 points for the Mavericks in the win.

The loss puts the Hardrockers at 7-7 overall and 7-6 in the RMAC. The Mavs improve their record to 11-4 overall and in the RMAC.
