RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines Women's basketball team could not contend with the pressure defense of Adams State and fell in part due to a 4-point second quarter.
Early in the first quarter, the Hardrockers started slow, going down 10-2 before going on a run and tying it up at 12. To end the quarter, Adams State would regain some momentum, scoring 7-in-a-row to end the first with a 19-12 Grizzly lead.
Early in the second quarter, neither team would get much going until a Demi Black three-pointer gave Adams State a 22-13 lead. Another Grizzly three-pointer would lead to a Hardrocker timeout, trailing 25-13. Following that,
Naomi Hidalgo earned a trip to the free throw line, hitting one. The Hardrockers couldn't reverse the momentum, finally getting another basket with just over a minute to go when
Sydnee Durtsche made a layup, cutting the deficit to 39-16 and that would be the score heading into halftime.Â
Early in the second half, the Hardrockers would begin to get the offense going, but it was for naught as they just couldn't grab much momentum. Four straight Hardrocker free throws cut the deficit to 50-28, however, South Dakota Mines couldn't get much going.
Ryan Weiss hit a three to end the fourth, to cut the deficit to 54-33 going into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Hardrockers weren't able to make up much ground despite the offense continuing to play well, the hole was too big and the Hardrockers wound up falling 66-45.
