Hardrockers Trample Cowgirls, 81-53, In RMAC Roundup

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of mines women's basketball team won its seventh-consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup Friday, making short work of the New Mexico Highlands University, 81-53, at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.

SD Mines took a 23-8 edge after the first quarter, and then outscored NMHU, 16-8, in the second period and went into halftime up by 23 points, 39-16.

The Hardrockers posted 30 points in the third frame while the Cowgirls collected 16 points and went into the final quarter with a 37-point advantage, 69-32.

The 'Rockers shot 48.4 percent from the field Friday, making good on 31-64 attempts, including 11-22 from the three-point line. The added 8-11 from the free throw line, came down with 42 rebounds, had 16 assists, 10 steals and two blocked shots.

The Cowgirls converted 20-51 shots to shoot 43 percent from the field. They collected 22 rebounds, 10 assists, nine steals and two blocked shots.

SD Mines was paced by Ryan Weiss with 24 points, two steals, one blocked shot and an assist. Naomi Hidalgo posted 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Sydney Leeper cashed in for 10 points and a rebound, while Anna Haugen and Sami Steffeck each added nine markers each.
