Preview: SD Mines WBB Look To Climb Up RMAC Standings

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball standings could go through some major readjusting after this weekend's slate of games and South Dakota School of Mines could make a significant climb up through the rankings after playing host to Colorado School of Mines and University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.

The Hardrockers enter the weekend with a 5-8 overall record and 3-6 mark in the RMAC, finding themselves in a tie for 11th place in the league rankings with UCCS. Regis and MSU Denver are just a game ahead to share ninth place while Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian have a two-game advantage and tied for seventh with 5-4 marks.   

SD Mines split on the road last weekend, falling to Regis University in a competitive overtime bout, 66-63, but rebounded nicely to earn a win over Colorado Christian, 68-56.

The 'Rockers are scoring 65.4 ppg and allowing just 60.9 ppg. Their offense is ranked fifth in the conference thanks to a good balance of accuracy on the perimeter mixed with much improved play in the paint.  

SD Mines is first in three-pointers made this season, averaging 8.4 a game and the team is third overall in three-pointer percentage at .331. Ryan Weiss paces the team and is ranked seventh in the RMAC averaging 15.3 ppg. Anna Haugen contributes with 11 ppg and leads the team --- as well as the RMAC ---in rebounding, averaging 10.2 rpg.

The 'Rockers will face Colorado School of Mines Friday night. The Orediggers are 8-6 on the season after splitting at home last weekend. They defeated Adams State, 79-36, but then fell to For Lewis College, 64-55, on Saturday.

The Orediggers are averaging 65.2 ppg and giving up 60.0 ppg. Their offense is ranked sixth in the conference, while the defense registers in the No. 5 spot. CSM's offense is led by Denali Pinto who cashes in for 18.9 ppg while Courtney Stanton adds 11.6 and Sammy Van Sickle contributes with 10.8 and paces the team with 8.5 rebounds.

On Saturday, SD Mines squares off with UCCS.  The Mountain Lions won their last two games starting with an upset Friday night against Fort Lewis College, 62-48. On Saturday, UCCS took control of the game early, holding Adams State University to just four points in the first quarter en route to a 69-54 victory.

The Mountain Lions head into the weekend posting 57.6 ppg to the scoreboard, while the defense allows 65.1 ppg. Abby Feickert is leading the Mountain Lions in three categories, all of them shooting.  Feickert is averaging 11 ppg, shooting 41.5 percent in field goal range, 35.1 percent behind the three-point line, and 81.8 percent from the free throw line.

 Freshman Makenna Baker was vital in the wins over the weekend, adding to the score with 18 points and four assists. Madi Gaibler ranks ninth in the league in rebounds per game, averaging 6.4 a game. Freshman Ellie Moore had an impressive weekend racking up 14 points and shooting 45.5 percent in the paint, adding three assists to her stats, and helped out defensively with eight rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
