RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team has a busy weekend as the Hardrockers begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition Friday traveling to Golden, Colorado for the "Meeting of the Mines" taking on Colorado School of Mines in a 7:30 p.m. bout.
The Hardrockers went 1-2 in non-conference action due to a 2-1 loss to Texas A&M-International and a 4-0 loss at Montana State Billings.
South Dakota Mines' lone victory came in 2-1 fashion at home versus University of Mary out of North Dakota, in a first-ever defeat of that program.
Sterling McKenzie,
George Martinez and
Brenden Sherwin account for the trio of goals on the season. Only one tally was assisted and that came from Nick House. Martinez serves as the overall leader on offense, boasting a team-high nine shots and six shots on goal this season.
Riley Dunne and
Tyler Ring have split the goalkeeping duties. Dunne has given up six goals and made 10 saves over 180:00 minutes. Ring touts a goals-against average of 1.00 in one start where he played all 90 minutes and made three saves.
Friday's matchup marks the sixth-ever meeting between the Orediggers and Orediggers. The home team boasts an all-time record of 6-0-0 after sweeping both matches last season by scores of 3-0 and 5-1.
SD Mines will then turn around and head back to Rapid City to play host to Regis University in an 11 a.m. bout at Sioux Park Stadium on Sunday.
The Rangers Regis currently posts a 1-2-1 overall record this season, with their only win coming in their most recent game against Fort Hayes States University. The Rangers have scored six goals on 70 shots (27 on goal) and allowed six goals in their four games this season. Regis also has four assists and 24 corner kicks this season.
Individually, Ben Shepherd and Parker Klein are leading the team in goals with two each, while Michael Jimenez is leading the team in assists with two. Keeper Tim Dolan has played all four games in net for Regis and has accumulated nine saves and a save percentage of 60 percent.
Regis will take on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Friday before the journey to South Dakota.
