Late Rally Falls Short For Hardrocker Women

PUEBLO, Colo. --- A fourth-quarter rally fell short for the South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team Saturday night in Pueblo, Colorado, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup against CSU-Pueblo, as the Thunderwolves were able to hold on for a 58-50 win and end the 'Rockers two-game win streak.

It was a good back-and-forth match to open the game with the T-Wolves grabbing a two-point edge after the first quarter, 14-12, and then broke loose in the second, closing out the period on an 11-0 run. The Pack went into halftime up, 35-24.

The home team continued the momentum in the third quarter, getting their largest lead of 17 points at the 5:49 mark of the third quarter before the Hardrockers were able to regroup.

SD Mines swung things the other way and cut their deficit down to 10 points at the end of the third quarter, 46-36.

The 'Rockers showed a lot of fight over the final 10 minutes, but every time they were able to gain some ground, the home team was able to have the answer at the other end. SD Mines did outscore the Pack in the final frame, 14-12.

The Hardrockers shot 28 percent on the night making good on 14-50 attempts, including 8-18 from the three point line and added 14-17 on free throws. SD Mines hauled in 35 rebounds, tallied nine assists, 10 steals and one block.

CSU-Pueblo finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the field converting 23-54 attempts, including 6-13 from downtown and added 6-9 from the foul line. The home team notched three rebounds, had 12 assists, 11 steals and eight blocked shots.

Indiviudally for the 'Rockers, Taylor Molstad had herself a night with a season-high 27 points (season-best eight field goals made, season-best five three-point goals made). She added three rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot.

Anna Haugen, the RMAC's Defensive Player of the Week, grabbed 13 rebounds Saturday and added four points, and one assist. Michaela Shaklee added six markers while Sami Steffeck contributed with five points.
