Hardrockers Deliver Strong Performance To Open Indoor Season

SPEARFISH, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's track and field teams got an early start to the 2019-20 indoor season this past weekend at the Black Hills State Holiday Classic in Spearfish, S.D.

The Hardrockes notched a provisional qualification along with eight event titles and a number of other Top 5 performances and a new school record.

Erica Keeble picked right up where she left off last season earning an NCAA Div. II provisional qualification in the women's pole vault Saturday, taking top honors after clearing a height of 3.74 meters. That height currently ranks her eighth in the nation.

Jayla Jarnagin broke her own school record during the women's weight throw after posting a mark of 16.45 and took second in Saturday's event. She also notched a second in the women's shot put after a toss of 11.82.  

Westley Siebdrath doubled up in the throws events taking first place in both the men's shot put and weight throw. During the shot put, he posted a mark of 14. 53 for the event title and then followed that up with a toss of 16.54 in the weight throw for first place.

Both the men's and women's 4x400 relays teams won their respective events. The women's team, consisting of Kayla Gagen, Erica Keeble, Katherine Mathieu and Kamryn Scully, clock a time of 4 minutes 14.4 seconds; while the men's team, made up of Danny Conlisk, Adam Namyst, Korder Cropsey and Kevin Ptak, posted a 3:29.31 for first place.

Other Hardrocker event winners included: Cropsey won the men's 60 dash (7.20); Travis Kleinsasser earned first in the men's pole vault (4.42); and Adeline Wilson came in first during the women's 5,000 run (19:57.57).

Other Hardrocker highlights included: Conlisk finished second in the men's 400 (52.40) and Ptak came in in third place (53.35); Ben Colvin took third in the men's 1,600 (4:50.35); Timothy Dunham earned second in the men's 5,000 run (16:04.10) while Anders Watt was a spot back in third (16:14.74);  Tayler Opstedahle finished third in the men's 50 hurdles (9.00); Jade Cass cleared a height of 1.95 and took second in the men's high jump while Conner Christenson also notched a 1.95 and took fourth; Jared Wilson grabbed second in the men's pole vault after clearing 4.42; Darren Nissen was third in the men's long jump (6.28); and Warren Minerich posted a 14.75 during the men's weight throw for third place.

On the women's side: Gagen earned third place in the women's 400 (1:05.86); Taylor Bright was runner-up in the women's 5,000 (20:17.79) and Alyssa Franke grabbed third (20:19.17); Morgan Thompson took second in the women's high jump (1.55) and then posted a third-place finish in the women's triple jump (10.19).
