RAPID CITY, S.D. --- South Dakota School of Mines sophomore
Dana Thomson has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All South Central Region Honorable Mention List announced Wednesday from the AVCA headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky.
Thomson had a phenomenal season. She is a 6-foot-1-inch outside hitter from Fruita, Colorado, who finished the season leading the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in kills (459), kills per set (4.21), total points (494.5) and was third in points per set (4.54). She also had 1,290 attacks and a .231 hitting percentage. She was second on the team in digs (261) averaging 2.39 per set.
"I am incredibly proud of Dana for being named to the South Central Honorable Mention All-Region team," said Hardrocker volleyball head coach Lauren Torvi-Prochazka. "She earned this recognition and this is exactly the group of women she should be in conversation with.
Thomson, who has also earned RMAC Second Team honors, set a conference record for most kills all-time in a five-set match this season. She recorded 35 kills during a match on Oct. 25 vs. Fort Lewis College and was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
Nationally, Thomson finished the year ranked sixth in total kills, 10
th in total attacks, 11
th in attacks per set (11.83), and 12
th in kills per set.
"I cannot say enough about Dana's work ethic and commitment to this program," Torvi-Prochazka said. "She consistently puts her team first and plays for her teammates --- a character trait that has completely elevated her game this year. I stand by my words after she was named second team All-RMAC, that she deserves to recognized as what she is --- one of the best Outside Hitters in the country."

The AVCA, with its headquarters in Lexington, Ky., is managed by Associations International. The mission of the AVCA is to advance the sport of volleyball with AVCA coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy and professional development.
