ALAMOSA, Colo. - From opening kick, it was a tightly contested match between the Adams State University Men's Soccer team and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrockers. Both teams played physical from start to finish as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. With the tie, the Grizzlies are now 0-5-2 on the year and 0-1-2 in RMAC play.
Both teams scored in the second frame after the first frame was scoreless due to solid defensive play. The Grizzlies struck first but a late goals by the 'Rockers in regulation ultimately led to the contest into overtime play. Neither team was able to capitalize as defense was solid in 110 minutes of action on both sides.
The first 45 minutes was scoreless but the Grizzlies had chances to score. At the 14:16 mark Dylan Udero played a quick shot to the left of the net from the middle inside of the box  but it nailed the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. Israel Varela was there for the deflection but played the ball right to the goalkeeper. That was the only shot the Grizzlies had on goal in the first frame.
The 'Rockers also had a chance to grab the lead in the first period as
Nicholas House had a header attempt hit the crossbar at the 36:49 mark. South Dakota Mines only shot on goal came in the 42nd minute but goalkeeper Jacob Faircloth was all over it for the save. Like the Grizzlies, the 'Rockers only had on shot on frame in the first period. Both teams did not make things easy as defense was physical on both sides.
Going into the break, the game was scoreless and it was still anyone's game to win. The 'Rockers had the overall shot advantage in the first period, 8-4. the physicality of the game showed as the teams combined for 16 fouls. the Grizzlies had seven, while the 'Rockers had nine.
Going into the second period, both teams continued their strong and physical defensive play. The Grizzlies came out early with some offensive aggression. Benji Rogers had two shots on goal in the 47th and 52nd minute but was not able to find the back of the net.Â
The game's first goal finally came in the 74th minute. Rogers looked to play a ball inside the box, but the 'Rockers tried to clear it. After a deflection from Rogers, Nick House tried to clear the ball for South Dakota Mines but a kick attempt by him allowed the ball to reach the back of the net for the own goal.
The Grizzlies 1-0 lead lasted for the next 14 minutes before the 'Rockers scored late to tie the game.
Justin Barkow got by his defender and played a long pass from
Cameron Thompson to score from five yards out on the right side. Rogers had a chance to capitalize for Adams State in the 89th minute but
Kyle Daledovich secured the save.
Neither team found the back of the net to secure the win but the opportunities were once again there. The 'Rockers had just one shot on goal in the first overtime but Faircloth was a wall in net. The Grizzlies did not get a shot off in the first overtime but had one shot on goal in the second overtime by Andree Salazar.
For the 'Rockers, Barkow led the way with a game-high seven shots, with three on goal and one goal scored. Daledovich grabbed five saves in net, while allowing one goal in 110 minutes of play.
