Rapid City, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team will be traveling to Bismarck, North Dakota this weekend to take on its former GNAC Conference rival – the University of Mary Marauders. The game is set to kick off at 12pm (MST) on the University of Mary campus.
The Marauders enter the game with a 0-1 record having lost on Thursday night, 2-0, against Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. Mary struggled against the stout defense of the Cavaliers and they were only able to get off five shots on the night with only one being on goal while Concordia.
The Hardrockers on the other hand have started their season 1-0 after beating Morningside College 4-1 last Sunday at Sioux Park. SD Mines finished the game with 12 total shots, six were on goal.
SD Mines will be led by senior Ian Debois who recorded his first collegiate hat trick against Morningside College on Sunday. Debois scored his first goal in the 17 minute of the first half, and finished two penalty kicks in the 50
th minute and 72
nd minute in the second half. He attempted four shots in the game, all four shots were put on target.
The Hardrockers have never defeated Mary in the nine times they have faced them in the program's history. Last season SD Mines came from three goals down and produced a tie over their oldest rival. They head into Sunday's matchup with a lot of momentum and the confidence to get the result.
