GOLDEN, Colo. – The South Dakota School of Mines men's and women's track and field teams finished the season, giving it their all this past weekend at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Golden, Colorado.
The Hardrockers were able to set another school record, as well as have their competitors improve greatly as individuals from the start of the season.
Listing the players who scored in the Top eight, first up we have Senior
Madison Larsen placed second in the women's javelin throw with her best mark being 129-feet-2 inches.
Senior
Kari Radke who placed eighth in the women's 10,000-meter run with a final time of 40:52.90.
Jonathon Murray, junior, placed seventh in the men's 400-m dash with a time of 49.12, and sophomore
Kevin Ptak was right behind in eighth place with a time of 49.62.
"Both men ran faster times in the preliminary (Murray 48.66, Ptak 49.38) to qualify for the final," said Hardrocker head coach
Jerry Schafer.
In the men's 800 run, freshman
Andrew Ferris placed fourth with a time of 1:54.15. Ferris set a new school record in the event during the preliminary race posting a time of 1:53.14. That marked bettered Ferris old record of 1:53.60 from earlier this season.
Competing in the men's 4x100 relay was sophomore
Korder Cropsey, freshman
Jeremy Gonzales, sophomore
Kevin Ptak, and junior
Kevin Thompson. The men finished fifth with a time of 41.82 which beats the old SD Mines school record of 42:27 set back in 2014.
Cropsey, Ptak, Ferris and Murray entered the 4x400 relay and placed sixth with a time of 3:16.86.
With a mark of 52-0.75 freshman
Cody Allen placed fourth in men's shot put.
Logan McGough, freshman, placed seventh in men's hammer throw with a mark of 156-7.
Kevin Thompson ran a personal best time in the 100m (10.74) to finish 6
th.
In all, the Hardrockers broke two school records and had sixteen athletes with career best times.
"We were very proud of the way our athletes performed. Even those that didn't score points competed hard and had some of their best efforts of the season and careers," Coach Schafer added.
