RAPID CITY, S.D – The South Dakota School of Mines track and field teams took off to Dickinson State University in North Dakota this past Friday to compete at the Blue Hawk Games.
The Hardrockers set 24 new personal records, one new school record and an updated Top 10 all-time list, the track and field athletes continue to prove they are giving nothing less than their best.
In the women's 3,000 steeplechase, senior Ryley Sutton took second place with a time of 12 minutes 13.19 seconds which broke the school record in which Sutton already owned. She held the record since 2016 with improving on her previous time of 12:14.27.
Freshman
Jeremy Gonzales placed fourth in the men's 100-meters race, setting a new personal best with a time of 10.80 seconds.
Jonathon Murray, junior, placed fourth in the 200 dash with a time of 21.80 which is also his personal best.
In the 1,500 race, freshman
Andrew Ferris finished third with a time of 4:08.37.
Junior
Jordan Mason participated in the 110 hurdles and placed fourth with a time of 16.66.
In the men's 4x100 relay, SD Mines came in first with a time of 42.28. On the team was
Korder Cropsey,
Sean Earley,
Jeremy Gonzales and
Kevin Thompson.
Cropsey,
Chase Wood, Ferris and
Kevin Ptak competed in the men's 4x400 relay and also placed first with a time of 3:23.79.
Sophomore
Wyatt Kainz placed fourth in the men's high jump with a mark of 6-feet-4 inches.
The Hardrocker men dominated the pole vault finals taking the four top spots.
Casey Skillingstad, junior, placed first with a mark of 14-7.25;
Jared Wilson, freshman, finished second with a mark of 14-1.25; Freshman
Doug Scott placed third with a mark of 14-1.25; and Neil Chaney, freshman, placed fourth with a mark of 13-1.5 which is also his personal best.
Darren Nissen placed third in the men's long jump setting his own personal best with a mark of 22-2.25.
Freshman
Cody Allen finished second in shot put with a mark of 49-5.75, and also came in third in men's discus with a mark of 145-11 which is a new personal record for him.
The men placed fifth overall with a team score of 49.
Sophomore Alexia Hodgson placed third in women's 400 with a time of 1:01.11 which is also her personal best.
Ryan Weiss, freshman, finished third in the 800-m with a time of 2:24.07.
In the 1500-m race junior Adeline Straatmeyer placed fourth with a time of 4:58.85.
Senior Kari Radke set a new best and placed fourth in the women's 5000-m run with a time of 19:27.30.
Kayla Gagen, sophomore, ran in the 400 hurdles and set a personal best with a time of 1:10.48.
Jayla Jarnagin, junior placed second in the shot put finals with a mark of 39-4.
In the women's hammer finals, Jarnagin placed first with a mark of 167-5 which is also a new best for her.
Senior Madison Larsen placed fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 117'10.
The women's team finished fourth overall with a score of 28.
Hardrockers will take off this Friday to Golden, Colorado, for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
