RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team played a very competitive game against the No. 24 ranked Colorado Mesa Mavericks Sunday morning at Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City, South Dakota, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
It was a very intense contest as the Hardrockers went toe-to-toe with one of the conference's premiere programs, but the home squad just ran out of time as the Mavericks held on to a one-goal lead in the second half and came away with the win, 2-1.
Mesa drew first blood, getting a goal off a penalty kick at the 19:26 mark. The Hardrockers knotted the game a short time later when freshman Brennan LaMoureax advanced a ball to junior
Justin Barkow who booted by Mesa's goalkeeper at the 32:29 mark.
Mesa scored quickly in the second half with an unassisted goal from Tristan Widic during the 46
th minute and then had to fight to keep the Hardrockers off the scoreboard for the rest of the half.
The Hardrockers had seven total shots, two on goal, while the Mesa Mavericks registered 22 shots, eight on goal.
Barkow led the 'Rockers with three shots, while junior

Connor Smoyer were all credited with one shot.

Jack Seifert got the start in goal for the Hardrockers. He suffered the loss, but did face eight shots and came away with six saves.
