RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team was caught a little off guard Tuesday night when the Lady Hardrockers played host to a very intense Black Hills State rival during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup at the King Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The Yellow Jackets throttled down from the opening serve and kept their "foot on the gas" throughout. The visitors stole the match, 3-0. BHSU defeated the Hardrockers, 25-14, 25-18, 25-18.
SD Mines closed out the match with 31 kills on 114 attacks for a .123 hitting percentage. They notched 22 assists, two service aces and 48 digs and added one block. The Yellow Jackets tallied 45 kills on 111 attacks for a .315 hitting percentage, recorded 43 assists, 60 digs and two total blocks.
Individually for the Hardrockers, freshman
Dana Thomson paced her team with a match-high 16 kills on 40 attacks for a .175 hitting percentage. Junior
Hannah Stevenson added six kills on 15 attacks and senior
Anna Breidt contributed with five kills on 23 attacks.
SD Mines freshman
Shyann Bastian had 22 of the team's 31 assists and
Tana Dahlberg led the Hardrockers with 14 digs while Bastian and sophomore
Emma Boeke each had eight.
