SPEARFISH, S.D. --- South Dakota School of Mines weight thrower
Jack Batho, IV had an outstanding performance Saturday during the Dave Little Indoor Track and Field Invitational hosted by Black Hills State.
The Hardrocker junior provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. II Indoor Championships in both the men's weight throw and shot put events.
Batho took first place in the shot put after a toss of 16.17 meters and followed that up with a second-place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 18.76. The weight throw distance also set a new SD Mines indoor record that was previously held by Everett Brill from 2011.
At the time this article was written, Batho holds the third-best throw in the RMAC for the shot put and second best for the weight throw.
SD Mines junior thrower Jayla Jarnagin also had a great meet winning both the women's weight throw (14.88) and the women's shot put (11.82).
Hardrocker sophomore
Darren Nissen won the men's long jump after posting a jump of 6.39 and then posted a second-place finish in the men's triple jump with a mark of 12.58.
In other highlights from Saturday's meet, Erica Keeble won the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 8.12 seconds;
Kevin Thompson won the men's 60 dash (7.17); the men's 4x400, made up of
Sean Earley,
Kevin Ptak,
Andrew Ferris and
Jonathon Murray, posted the best time of 3:28.03;
Ty Nickerson grabbed second in the men's pole vault (4.43);
Andrew Ferris took runner-up honors in the men's 800 run (1:58.82);
Jeremy Gonzales secured second in the men's 60 dash (7.21);
Korder Cropsey took second in the men's 200 dash (23.18); Kari Radke finished second in the women's 5K (19:30.21); and Alexia Hodgson posted a second-place finish during the women's 200 dash (28.73).
