CCU Holds Back SD Mines Volleyball Team, 3-0

RAPID CITY, SD --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team had flashes of greatness Friday night during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at the King Center in Rapid City, but their opponent, Colorado Christian, couldn't be denied as the Cougars shutdown the Hardrockers, 3-0.

Colorado Christian defeated the Lady Hardrockers, 25-18, 25-12, 25-22.

It was a very competitive first set as both squads battled hard in the early goings. CCU was able gain the momentum down the stretch to steal the first game and continued the surge in the second set. SD Mines was able to regroup in the third frame and gave the visitors all they could handle. Improved defense kept the home team in the hunt. But Colorado Christian found a way to finish out the game and earn the RMAC win.

The Hardrockers ended the match with 25 kills and .017 hitting percentage. The home team tallied 24 assists, came up with 51 digs and recorded nine total blocks. The Cougars ended the night with 40 kills and had a .188 hitting percentage to go along with their 40 assists, 65 digs and seven total blocks.

Individually for the Hardrockers, senior Mikkella Rees led her squad with seven kills, had a .40 hitting percentage and a match high 18 digs. Senior Emily Newton and junior Anna Breidt both finished with six kills each. Freshman Emma Eckel contributed with 12 assists and sophomore Allie Boggs added 11. Freshman Tana Dahlberg and junior Alye Wagner both finished with 10 digs each.

The loss drops SD Mines to 1-13 on the season and 0-5 in the RMAC. Next up, the Lady Hardrockers play host to the No. 23 ranked Colorado School of Mines Saturday in a 3 p.m. meeting at the King Center.
