WAYNE, Neb. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team took a break from Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play and traveled to Wayne, Neb., for a non-conference match against the No. 22 ranked Wayne State Wildcats Tuesday night.
Wayne State defeated the Lady Hardrockers, 25-7, 25-10, 25-19. SD Mines started off a little sluggish in the first set, and slowly found their groove, and by the third game, gave the No. 22 ranked squad all they could handle, but the home team proved to be too much down the stretch.
SD Mines finished with 20 kills in the contest and had a .034 hitting percentage. The visitors tallied 19 assists, came up with 36 digs and notched three total blocks. Wayne State ended the night with 42 kills, had .375 hitting percentage, grabbed 41 assists, 45 digs and eight total blocks.
Individually for the 'Rockers, sophomore
Kenzie DeVries paced her team with eight kills and had a .240 hitting percentage and came up with five digs. Sophomores
Caryn Hazard and
Hannah Stevenson both contributed with four kills each. Freshman setter
Tana Dahlberg recorded 16 of the Hardrockers' 19 assists and led the team with seven digs.
The loss drops SD Mines to 1-12 on the season and the Hardrockers get back to RMAC competition this weekend playing host to Colorado Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. and then square off with Colorado Mines Saturday afternoon in a 3 p.m. meeting. Â
