CSUP Escapes With 3-1 Win Over SD Mines VB Team

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team had another great opportunity to earn that elusive first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win of the season Saturday afternoon at the King Center in Rapid City as the Lady Hardrockers played host to the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves.

Much like Friday's match, SD Mines had a solid start, winning the first set in convincing fashion, but CSUP bounced back to take the next three games and escape with a 3-1 victory. The Thunderwolves defeated SD Mines, 20-25, 27-25, 25-16, 27-25.

SD Mines had an outstanding game blocking at the net, marking up 11 total (2 solo 18 assisted) but CSU-Pueblo was able to counter with their serving, recording 10 aces on the night.

The Hardrockers tallied 51 kills in the match and had a .195 hitting percentage and added 46 assists and 77 digs. The ThunderWolves finished with 55 kills hit .193 percent had 52 assists, 87 digs and four team blocks.

Individually for SD Mines, sophomore Caryn Hazard led the team with 16 kills and had a .341 hitting percentage. Junior Darla Drenckhahn tacked on 13 kills and had a 2.44 hitting percentage to go along with her 13 digs. Senior Emily Newton added nine kills and junior Anna Breidt contributed with seven.

Freshman setter Emma Eckel came up with 43 of the Hardrockers' 46 assists and junior Alye Wagner led the team with 24 digs while sophomore Allie Brown provided 14 digs.

The loss drops SD Mines to 1-11 on the season and 0-4 in the conference. The Hardrockers head to Nebraska on Tuesday to take on Wayne State College and then are back home this weekend welcoming Colorado Christian University on Friday and Colorado Mines on Saturday.
