DENVER, Colo. --- It's been less than a week since the South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team tangled with the MSU Denver Roadrunners. After the Hardrockers came up just short to MSUD on Sunday in Rapid City, SD Mines traveled to Denver, Colo., for a rematch Friday during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.
Unfortunately for the 'Rockers, MSU Denver again came away with the win, defeating SD Mines, 2-0. Both sides came out the first half strong and ready to play. The Roadrunners maintained most possession in their offensive half earning an early penalty kick in the 21
st minute of the half. Hardrockers goalkeeper
Kyle Daledovich came up strong for his team making a great save to keep the score 0-0.
Â
However, the Roadrunners continued to press in their offensive half. The Roadrunners would answer scoring off a deflected header on a corner kick in the 33
rd minute.Â
Â
The rest of the have was a physical battle between the Hardrockers and Roadrunners with a combined 15 first-half fouls and several yellow cards, but the score would remain in favor of MSUD, going into half at 1-0.
Â
MSU Denver struck again being dangerous on its sixth corner of the game. Sophomore
Yannick Schad played a bullet into the head of
Nils Runnberg for the Roadrunners to take a 2-0 lead in the 61
st minute.
Â
SD Mines closed out the game with just four shots, two on goal while the Roadrunners posted 17 shots seven on goal. Hardrocker junior
Noah McKenzie had two shots in the game, one on goal, while sophomores
Ryan Higginbotham and
Justin Barkow each notched a shot.
Daledovich played all 90 minutes in the net and suffered the loss despite making five saves during the game.
