Hardrocker Soccer Team Gets RMAC Rematch This Weekend in Colorado

Rematch awaits in Colorado…..

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The hot starting South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team takes to the road this weekend headed to Colorado for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rematches after a pair of milestone contests this past Friday and Sunday.

The Hardrockers earned an impressive 5-1 result over Colorado Christian University this past Friday followed by an intense matchup against MSU Denver on Sunday that saw four penalties kicks and ended with a 3-2 result in favor of the Roadrunners.

Early into the 2017 season, SD Mines has been very stingy in their half during competition, only giving up five goals in five games, three coming against MSU Denver. The 'Rockers have been very sharp defensively, conceding one goal in that run of play as well.

For the second time this year, SD Mines men's soccer has earned RMAC Player of The Week honors.

During the first week of the season junior Kyle Daledovich made 12 saves over two games to receive RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week. The league announced Tuesday that the top honor for Offensive Player of the Week went to sophomore forward Justin Barkow for his tremendous effort in the last two outings.

Barkow scored his first collegiate hat-trick on Friday against Colorado Christian and then added a penalty kick on Sunday for four goals over the weekend. Barkow has five goals total on the season which has already passed last year's output. Barkow is currently third in the RMAC for points (10) and points per game (2.00), second in the league for goals (5) and goals per game (1.00).

SD Mines doesn't have long to wait to get another crack at the Roadrunners facing them this Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup in Denver, Colo. After starting the year with a 0-5 mark, MSUD has won two straight --- squeaking out the 3-2 win on Sunday over the Hardrockers followed by a 4-0 shutout to Colorado Christian Wednesday evening.

The Hardrockers will travel to Lakewood Colo., for a Sunday meeting against the CCU Cougars who have dropped their last two games (SD Mines, MSUD) and are 1-5-1 on the season. That game is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
