Roadrunners Escape With RMAC Win Over Hardrocker Soccer Team

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- In a tightly contested Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup between the South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team and MSU Denver at Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City, the visiting Roadrunners gave the Hardrockers their first defeat of the season, escaping with a 3-2 win.

The game was very physical and the first four goals of the game were all successful results of penalty kicks. MSU Denver drew first blood with a penalty kick from Yannick Schad at the 8:11 mark.

The Hardrockers tied the game in the ninth minute with a penalty kick from Justin Barkow, who now has his five goal of the season. That was followed by a penalty kick from David Pineda in the 25th minute giving SD Mines a 2-1 advantage.

The fourth penalty kick was again delived by Snad during the 59th minute. The only clean goal happened at the 83:05 mark by Nils Runnberg off an assist from Justin Glivar.

MSU Denver, who were winless coming into Sunday's game, were very aggressive with 22 shots in the game, 10 on goal while SD Mines had 10 shots, seven on goal. Barkow finished with three shots, two on goal; Pineda had two shots, both on goal; and Darin James, Ian Debois, Sterling McKenzie and Trenton Magreta were all credited with shots.

Hardrocker Kyle Daledovich played all 90 minutes in goal, giving up three goals but notched seven saves.

The loss drops SD Mines to 2-1-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play, while MSU Denver improves to 1-5-0 on the season and 1-1 in the RMAC.

The Hardrockers don't have long to get another crack at the Roadrunners, traveling to Denver, Colo., this coming weekend for a rematch with MSUD on Friday and then will take on Colorado Christian University Sunday in Lakewood, Colo.
