RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play starts with two big games for the South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team this weekend at Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City, S.D., as the Hardrockers play host to Colorado Christian University of Friday night followed by an epic matchup with MSU Denver Sunday morning.
In 2016, it took the men's soccer team eight games before they found a result. But 2017 has begun with a different tune, as the 'Rockers find themselves undefeated (1-0-2) through three games, only giving up one goal through that span.
SD Mines will open the RMAC schedule against Colorado Christian on Friday in a 6 pm (MST) matchup at Sioux Park Stadium. The Cougars are coming off a historic 1-0 win on Wednesday night against the MSU Denver Roadrunners. That marks CCU's first win on the season leaving Metro State winless at 0-5 for the year.
CCU Cougars will not be a squad for the Hardrockers to sleep on as they outshot MSUD, 8-5, in the first half and put the lone goal away. CCU head coach Gary Evans is the longest-tenured coach in the RMAC at 14 years, which means they are coming to Rapid City with a wealth of experience at the helm.
Sunday's game is against MSU Denver and although the Roadrunners are 0-5 to start the 2017 campaign, each contest has been decided by just one goal. The Roadrunners are putting themselves in good positions, but can't catch a break.
The Hardrockers men's soccer team will be equally prepared and ready to match MSU's intensity as first year head coach
Andrew Conniff knows all about being in close games. Last season the Hardrocker men's program saw seven games decided by one goal or overtime.
Also in 2016, SD Mines and MSUD split the series 1-1 with both teams finding 2-1 decisions.
South Dakota Mines has three different players on the score sheet and want to continue to share the wealth as they push into RMAC play.
Both games will be live streamed on the website:
