Regis Escapes With 84-82 Win Over Relentless 'Rockers

RAPID CITY, S.D --- It was a good ol' fashion slugfest Saturday night as the South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team went blow for blow with Regis University during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Saturday evening at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.

It was a game that saw 18 lead changes and the score tied nine times. Regis was able to break away late in the game and held off a Hardrocker rally to win the bout, 84-82. The Rangers were up by eight points with just under a minute to go. The Hardrockers were able to get within three points with about 30 ticks left on the clock, but some clutch free throws down the stretch insured the visitors a win.

Regis trailed by seven points early in the first half, but was able to take a one-point advantage at halftime, 36-35, and then outscored the Hardrockers, 48-47, over the final 20 minutes.

SD Mines shot very well from the field again on Saturday, hitting 32-57 shots for 56.1 percent. The home team was 7-14 from the three-point line and 11-15 on free throws. The 'Rockers recorded 27 rebounds, notched 14 assists, one steal and two blocks.

Regis finished shooting 54.7 percent from the field making good on 29-53 attempts and was 7-16 from behind the arc and converted 19-27 from the foul line. They added 20 rebounds, eight assists, seven steals and two blocked shots.

Individually for the Hardrockers, freshman Troy Brady had a stellar 18-point performance for his team including a last-second bank shot three-pointer buzzer beater. Sophomore Logan Elers contributed with 15 points and senior Brian Orr had 14 markers, five rebounds and an assist.

Christian Little paced Regis with 24 points while teammate Ty McGee tacked on 20 markers.

The loss drops SD Mines back down to .500 with a 5-5 overall mark and 3-3 record in the RMAC. Next up, the Hardrockers play host to Nebraska Christian in a non-conference bout at the King Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
