RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Every member of the South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team that played Monday night got into the scorer's book Monday night as the Hardrockers routed the Nebraska Christian Sentinels, 81-53, during a non-conference game at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.
Nebraska Christian started out the game strong, but could keep pace with the high level of play from the Hardrockers as the home team took a 10-point halftime lead, 37-27. The 'Rockers flexed their muscles over the final 20 minutes outscoring the Sentinels, 44-26.
SD Mines shot 50.8 percent from the field Monday making good on 30-59 baskets, including 5-19 from three-point range and 16-20 from the free throw line. The 'Rockers grabbed 39 rebounds, recorded 22 assists, six steals and three blocks.
Nebraska Christian hit 20-59 attempts to shoot 33.9 percent from the field, including 9-25 from three-point range and were 4-4 from the foul line. The visitors collected 24 rebounds, nine assists, three steals and two blocks.
Individually, sophomore
Logan Elers had a great night converting 8-10 for 17 points and eight rebounds. Senior
Brian Orr also performed well with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal. Freshman
Troy Brady tacked on 12 points, four assist and two steals.
The win improves SD Mines to 6-5 on the season and will get back into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Dec. 30 when the Hardrockers play host to New Mexico Highlands.
