RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team could not quite get over the hump Friday night as the Chadron State College Lady Eagles edged the Hardrockers in straight sets, winning over their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals, 3-0, at the King Center in Rapid City.
It was quite a back-and-forth match, filled with momentum swings and lead changes, but the Hardrockers couldn't seemed to find the fire they needed to close out each game. The Eagles defeated SD Mines, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23.
The Hardrockers finished the match with 38 kills and had a .115 hitting percentage. The home team tallied 38 assists, had two service aces, came up with 85 digs and had 10 total blocks on the night. The Eagles notched 38 kills with a .097 hitting percentage to go along with their 38 assists, 88 digs and nine total blocks.
For the Hardrockers, senior
Mikkella Reese paced the squad with 11 kills and 16 digs. Fellow senior
Emily Newton also tallied 11 kills with a .290 hitting percentage. Junior
Anna Breidt had some powerful swings as well, collected nine kills with a .364 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Allie Boggs led the team with 35 assists. Junior
Alye Wagner had the most digs on the night for the 'Rockers with 26 and freshman
Emma Boeke contributed with 16.
The Hardrockers will be back in action Saturday evening in a 6 p.m. match against Regis University to close out the home schedule.
