RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team looks to continue the push to improve on its record setting season as the Hardrockers close out the year with a matchup against old Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival MSU Billings Saturday in Montana.

This past weekend the Hardrockers doubled its win total from all previous seasons, as SD Mines defeated Adams State, 2-1, during an overtime Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference bout at Sioux Park. It was the first overtime victory in program history.

Against the Grizzlies, SD Mines took advantage of the wind, netting a goal in the first half and overtime with the gust at their backs. SD Mines Senior
Brandon Lind scored his first collegiate goal settling the ball off his chest, then thigh through traffic and hit a volley into the side netting giving SD Mines the lead at the half.

Adams State would strike early in the second half, but that didn't faze the Hardrockers as they continued to put shots on target and create chances. As the whistle blew for regulation, SD Mines knew they were going to have to put one away with the wind at their backs to start overtime.

Which they did.

Hardrocker sophomore
Justin Barkow took a pass from senior
Darin James and slotted it into the bottom right corner to seal the victory and make it a memorable moment for the six seniors honored before the start of the contest. Those six seniors were
Lars Skau (all-time leader in Minutes Played),
Charles Kieffer (second on the team in scoring),
Darin James,
David Pineda (second in all-time assists),
Brandon Lind and
Brett Bender.

The Hardrockers will look to keep the momentum going as they are set to play Montana State Billings on Saturday at 2 p.m. SD Mines will look to get their first career win against the Yellowjackets. The series sits at 6-0-1 and MSUB is a perfect 5-0 at home against SD Mines.
The Yellowjackets (8-9, 6-5 GNAC) are on a roll with three straight wins over the top three teams in the GNAC standings. MSUB enters the week in third place with 18 points, trailing first-place Seattle Pacific (22 points) and second-place Simon Fraser (20 points) with one conference game left to play.

Last week, MSUB stunned No. 9 Simon Fraser with a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph at home. It was the first win over the Clan in program history for the 'Jackets, and the team followed with a convincing 2-0 shutout of Western Washington University on Saturday. The last time these two rivals faced off last fall,  the 'Jackets picked up a 3-0 win at home on Sept. 11 at Yellowjacket Field. Hauenstein found the net and Posarelli scored a pair of goals to lead MSUB to the shutout victory.
