DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team had quite the challenge Friday night as the Lady Hardrockers challenged the No. 10 ranked Regis University Lady Rangers during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match in Denver, Colo.
The Hardrockers were strong out of the gate, and control most of the first set, but the Rangers were able to rally back and turned SD Mines away. The home team continued their momentum in the next two games and took the match, 3-0.
Regis defeated the Lady 'Rockers, 25-23, 25 14, 25-12. SD Mines finished with 30 kills on the night and had a .054 hitting percentage. The 'Rockers tallied 28 assists, 64 digs and seven total blocks. The Rangers recorded 47 kills and had a .233 hitting percentage to go along with their 41 assists, 70 digs and seven total blocks.
The Hardrockers were paced by junior
Anna Breidt who tallied 10 kills and had a .214 hitting percentage. Senior
Mikkella Reese came away with seven kills and senior
Emily Newton finished with six kills. Sophomore
Allie Boggs was responsible for 24 of her team's 28 assists. Junior
Alye Wagner and Reese both led the 'Rockers with 15 digs each, freshman
Tana Dahlberg notched 13 and sophomore
Allie Brown contributed with 10. Freshman
Lily Lundquist had five assisted blocks for the 'Rockers as well.
The loss drops SD Mines to 2-15 on the season and 0-7 in conference play. The Hardrockers next travel to Nebraska for a Saturday match against Chadron State at 6 p.m.
