SD Mines Falls to MSUD, 3-0, In RMAC Volleyball Action

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team fell to the MSU Denver Roadrunners Friday night at Goodell Gymnasium in Rapid City, S.D. during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match, 3-0.

The Hardrockers had a hot start to the first set, jumping out to a 10-4 advantage, but struggled to close the game out as the Roadrunners put the pressure on and came back to win. The visitors kept up the momentum in the next two sets to earn the RMAC victory.

MSU Denver defeated SD Mines, 25-21, 25-15, 25-17, The Hardrockers ended the match with 31 kills and had a .121 hitting percentage. The home team notched 28 assists and came up with 60 digs. The Roadrunners collected 48 kills and had a .260 hitting percentage to go along with their 75 digs and four total blocks.

Individually for the Lady 'Rockers, senior Mikkella Reese led the way with eight kills and had a .065 hitting percentage. Sophomore Caryn Hazard closed out the match with seven kills and a .269 hitting percentage. Junior Anna Breidt also had seven kills and a .389 hitting percentage.

SD Mines freshman setter Emma Eckel was responsible for 24 of the team's 28 assists and junior Alye Wagner paced the 'Rockers with 20 digs on the night while Eckel gathered 11 and senior Emily Newton came up with 10.

The loss drops SD Mines to 3-20 on the season and 1-13 in conference play. Next up, the Hardrocker play host to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
