Griffins Shock Hardrockers With 2OT Win, 2-1

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team found itself in quite a back-and-forth struggle Sunday afternoon during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game against Westminster College at Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City, S.D.

It took two overtimes to decide the outcome with the Griffins finally breaking the stalemate midway through the second overtime period to notch the win, 2-1.
After a 0-0 tie in the first half, SD Mines sophomore Justin Barkow got the result he was after on a penalty kick during the 50th minute.

The lead was short lived as Westminster College made good on a penalty kick of their own less than a minute later, as Alec Marshall earned a goal at the end of the 50th minute.

From that point it was evenly matched and the game was tied after regulation and the first overtime. Marshall Johnson of the Griffins delivered the winning shot during the 105th minute.

The Hardrockers finished the game with 17 shots, five were on goal, while the Griffins tallied 12 shots, four on goal.

Barkow paced the 'Rockers with five shots, one on goal, senior David Pineda had four shots, two on goal, senior Brandon Lind had three shots, one on goal, and senior Darin James recorded three shots, two on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Kyle Daledovich suffered the lost playing all 105 minutes in goal. He faced all 12 shots and came away with two saves.

The loss drops SD Mines to 3-8-2 on the season and 2-8 in the RMAC and will next travel to Pueblo, Colo., Friday to face the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves and then head to Colorado Springs, Colo., to challenge the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions.
