Mesa Breaks RMAC Stalemate With 2nd Half Barrage

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- Colorado Mesa proved why they are ranked No. 20th in the nation for men's soccer as the Mavericks unleashed a second-half scoring surge over the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers Friday afternoon at Sioux Park Stadium in Rapid City, S.D., during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.

The visitors from Grand Junction, Colo., won the game, 4-1, scoring all the goals over the final 45 minutes of play. The Mavericks first goal came at 47:43 mark when CMU's Niall Saffery took a pass forwarded by Malik Mennana and booted it just past the SD Mines goalkeeper for the first score.

The second goal came at the 66:04 mark when Benji Deigaldillo took a pass from Matthew Millner and found the back of the net from the center of the box to make it 2-0.

Mennana was credited with another assists during the 72nd minute when Connor Lowdermilk took a cross and blasted it through for the score. After giving up an own goal with 80:48, Mesa's Moshe Perez hit a high hard one that caught the top of the net for the game's final goal during the 84th minute.

Mesa finished with 21 shots in the game, with 10 shots on goal. The Hardrockers tallied six total shots, five were shots on goal. Sophomore Justin Barkow had two shots, both on goal, senior David Pineda had two shots, one on goal, and senior Brandon Lind and junior Noah McKenzie both had one shot each.

SD Mines junior Kyle Daledovich suffered the loss for the Hardrockers playing all 90 minutes in goal. He did have six saves in the game.

The loss drops the 'Rockers to 3-7-2 on the season and 2-7 in the RMAC and will next see action Sunday morning in an 11 a.m. game against Westminster College at Sioux Park Stadium.
