'Rockers Stung By Yellow Jackets In RMAC Match

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team was in quite the dog fight Tuesday night when the Lady Hardrockers played host to their oldest rival, Black Hills State, at Goodell Gymnasium in Rapid City.

SD Mines show flashes of greatness, but had a hard time putting the Yellow Jackets away. Momentum fell out of favor and the home team could not swing things back in their favor as BHSU won in straight sets during the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.

The Yellow Jackets defeated SD Mines, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21. The Hardrockers ended the match with 38 kills and had .118 hitting percentage to go along with 35 assists, 50 digs and two total blocks. The Jackets came away with 35 kills, a .178 hitting percentage, 32 assists, 46 digs and six total blocks.

The Hardrockers had a great effort out of their two seniors. Mikkella Reese led her squad with 15 kills and 16 digs. She also had a .171 hitting percentage. Emily Newton collected 12 kills and had a .194 hitting percentage. Sophomore Allie Bogs made good on 30 assists for the SD Mines and junior Alye Wagner contributed with 14 digs.

The loss drops SD Mines to 2-17 on the season and 0-9 in the RMAC. Next up, the Hardrockers are off to Utah on Friday to face Westminster College in a RMAC matchup.
