RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team doesn't seem to mind playing on the road this season as the Lady Hardrockers rolled out another big win Friday night in Alamosa, Colo. This time defeating the Adams State Lady Grizzlies, 74-58, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference bout.
It the third-straight win on the road as the Hardrockers have won four of their last five games as the team improved to 7-9 on the season and 5-6 in the RMAC.
The first quarter was a push offensively Friday night as each squad posted 14 points, but SD Mines broke loose in the second quarter, outscoring Adams State, 25-12, and took a 13-point halftime edge, 39-26.
The Grizzlies did put in 22 points in the third stanza while SD Mines managed 19 and then the visitors had another big fourth quarter, bettering the host school, 16-10.
"Great effort by the ladies tonight, Adams State is a tough place to play and they really made it difficult for us," said Hardrocker women's basketball head coach
Ryan Larsen. "We executed really well against their zone offensively. Our guards, especially (junior)
Krista Showalter, did a great job of finding our posts in the soft spots of their zone.
SD Mines was on point from the field, making good on 27-49 for 55 percent, including nine from behind the arc and a solid 11-13 from the free throw line. The Lady 'Rockers recorded 40 rebounds, 15 assists, two steals and one block.
The Grizzlies shot 35 percent from the field hitting 23-65 attempts, with five three-pointers and was 7-9 from the foul line. Adams State came down with 26 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.
Individually for the Hardrockers, senior center
Megan Rohrer paced her squad with 19 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Freshmen
Sami Steffeck and
Molly McCabe were both feeling it Friday as each posted 13 points while fellow freshman
Anna Haugen dished in 10 markers. Showalter recording five assists in the game.
