DURANGO, Colo. --- In a game of runs, it was Fort Lewis College that came out on top over the South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team Saturday night during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup, 76-60, in Durango, Colo.
There were plenty of momentum swings as the Lady Skyhawks would go on a scoring run only to see the Hardrockers regroup and make an offensive push of their own. A small momentum swing at the end of the first half followed by a big fourth quarter allowed the home team to come away with the victory.
Fort Lewis led by three after the first quarter, 17-14, and then went into halftime up by six, 40-36. The Skyhawks were just a point better in the third quarter, 14-13, but then unleashed in the fourth quarter, outscoring the visitors, 22-13.
It was tough sledding for the Hardrockers offensively, shooting just 30 percent from the field, converting 18-61 attempts and they were 61 percent from the foul line hitting 19-31. SD Mines made good on five of 23 from behind the arc. The Lady 'Rockers came down with 44 rebounds, had 12 assists, eight steals and two blocks.
The Skyhawks were 28-70 to shoot 40 percent from the field. They were 16-25 from the foul line and came up with four three-pointers. FLC came down with 56 rebounds, had 14 assists, nine steals and one block.
Individually for the Hardrockers, senior
Megan Rohrer led the way with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Junior
Taylor Molstad, freshman
Molly McCabe and freshman
Sami Steffeck all contributed with 10 points each. Senior
Heather Rogers added nine markers.
Fort Lewis was led in scoring by Alyssa Yocky with 25 points, Shelby Patterson had 19 and Briana Clah put in 13.
The loss drops SD Mines to 7-10 on the season and 5-7 in the RMAC. Next up the Lady 'Rockers are back home Tuesday taking on Black Hills State in a 5:30 p.m. matchup at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena. Get your advance tickets at
