Marauders Stave Off Hardrocker Soccer Late Rally

Box Score BISMARCK, N.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team nearly pulled off a late comeback over the University of Mary Sunday afternoon but the Hardrockers ran out of time as the Marauders were able to stave off the attack to escape with the win, 3-2, in Bismarck, N.D.

It could have been first-game jitters for the Hardrockers as the Marauders scored three goals in the first 20 minutes of play before SD Mines could settle in and competed against their former Great Northwestern Athletic Conference foes.

"I thought our guys played extremely well this afternoon. This is the first game since I've been here where we outplayed the other team and didn't get the result," said Hardrocker second-year head coach Jordan Kadlec. "We have to give Mary credit – they took advantage of their chances when they had them."

SD Mines trailed, 3-0, at the half.

"We can't give up three goals in the game – let alone in the first 20 minutes and expect to win," Kadlec added.

The Hardrockers came out firing in the second half, scoring in the first minute when sophomore Noah Mckenzie hit the upper left corner of the net off a corner kick from senior Andreas Skau.

SD Mines second goal came with just over 10 minutes to play in the game when sophomore Ian Debois was on point in the goal off an assist from freshman Justin Barkow.

SD Mines was very aggressive in the game, notching 19 shots, 10 on goal, while Mary had 15 shots, 11 on goal.

Barkow led the team with four shots (two on goal), while senior Brandon Lind, Skau, and Mckenzie all recorded two shots each in the game. Sophomore Kyle Daledovich played all 90 minutes in goal and came away with eight saves while giving up three goals.

The loss drops SD Mines to 0-1 on the season. The Hardrockers will get another crack at the Marauders this weekend facing each other Friday at the Rimrock Classic, hosted by MSU-Billings in Montana. The Hardrockers will also face MSU-Billings at the tournament on Sunday.

"We will fix some things in training this week and be prepared for Mary again on Friday," Kadlec said.
