The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team was not able to come away with a win Friday evening after their short trip to Chadron State. The Eagles won the contest three sets to one.
Â
The first two sets were extremely competitive. The Eagles edged the Lady Rockers in set one 26-24, then the Lady Rockers bounced right back winning the second set 28-26. The Eagles then found their stride, winning the final two sets 25-20 and 25-18.
Â
"This is probably the most consistent match we've had in terms of effort for quite a while," said Hardrocker head coach
Doug Tabbert. "It feels like we let an opportunity slip away."
Â
The Lady Rockers had 51 kills in the match, which was more than double their kill total from their last contest. Despite the disappointing result, Coach Tabbert could not help but acknowledge the quality his team displayed, "Offensively we got some things done and we dug a lot of balls that we haven't consistently handled this year."
Â
Junior
Emily Newton led the Lady Rockers with 13 kills and added three blocks. Sophomore
Elizabeth Jensen also had a very impressive performance, tallying 45 assists and 15 digs.
Â
The loss drops SD Mines to 1-25 on the season and 0-15 in the RMAC. SD Mines will finish out their road trip with a match at Regis (15-10) on Saturday, before returning for their final two matches of the season at home.
