RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota Mines Hardrocker men's soccer team picked up their first win of the season this past Sunday defeating the Colorado Christian Cougars, 2-1. This was the 'Rockers first home game of the season as well, and they will hope to continue their home win streak this weekend.
SD Mines (1-8) play host to Metro State-Denver Friday afternoon in a 2 p.m. bout. MSU (6-3-1) has enjoyed RMAC play, where they boast a 4-1-1 record. They have picked up four wins in their last five matches. During this stretch they outscored their opponents 15 to 6. The Roadrunners are currently ranked fourth in the conference standings.
"The Hardrockers are fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead of them. Metro State has been in and out of the Top25 in the country all season," said SD Mines men's soccer head coach
Jordan Kadlec. "They're a very good team and will poise a heck of a challenge for us."
MSU-Denver's Josh Belfrage is currently second in the RMAC standings for goals scored with seven on the season.
On Sunday, University of Colorado Colorado Springs travels to Rapid City to face the Hardrockers in a 1 p.m. bout. The Mountain Lions are 5-4-1 on the season, but have picked up three-straight conference victories heading into this weekend. During their win streak they have not conceded a single goal.
Freshman forward,
Justin Barkow, has been a standout for the Hardrockers. Barkow is second in the RMAC with 3.67 shots/game. Junior
Lane Schroeder has battled some injury problems this year, but still finds himself on the RMAC Top 10 list for goals per game.
"Getting that first win of the season was big for us," Kadlec said. "It's going to help gain that momentum we need and increase the level of play we need to be competitive in this league. The team is looking forward to getting back out on the pitch and deliver another win for all the Hardrocker fans."
