Biography

Chase Wood is an outstanding distance runner from Las Vegas, Nev., who plans to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering while attending South Dakota Mines. He will compete in both cross country and track and field for the Hardrockers.

Wood has some outstanding highlights in his high school career. He was crowned the champion in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races at the Nevada High School State Track Meet in 2014 and 2015 --- as well as anchoring the 4x800 championship relay team. He helped his team win the state championship in 2015 and finish runners-up in 2014. Wood is also a two-time individual Nevada State Cross Country Champion.

“Chase is one of the top runners in Nevada --- a proven competitor and a great young man,” said Hardrocker cross country head coach Steve Johnson. “He has demonstrated tremendous range from the 400-meter event through cross country. We’re excited to see what he is able to do as a Hardrocker.”

Wood currently holds four school records and is working to set another to finish up his high school career. He is the Wendy’s High School Heisman State winner in 2015 and the 2016 Gatorade Cross Country Athlete of the Year, was inducted into the Nevada Legends of Cross Country, is a member of the Honors Institute and earned a STEM endorsement.

“Being a Hardrocker offers me the opportunity to run competitively at the collegiate level while gaining a first-class education centered around match and science,” Wood said.
